The Tennessee Titans are originally known as the Houston Oilers. They came into the league in 1960. They are and have always been owned by Bud Adams. He made the decision of moving the team to Nashville, Tennessee for 1997-1998 seasons. The Tennessee Oilers stadium would not be ready until the 1999-2000 season; therefore they traveled to Memphis to play at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. It caused a lot of problems for the fans from Nashville, and also Memphis locals weren’t thrilled of the idea either because they wanted their own NFL team for many years. In 1998 Bud Adams announced that he would change the name of the team due to the request from the fans. He wanted the new name to really represent power, leadership, and strength. On December 22, 1998 the city had voted and decided to change the name to the Tennessee Titans. It was a perfect fit for the Nashville’s nickname “ The Athens of the South”. The Titans won their very first home game against the Bengals with a sold out crowd. Every Titans game has been sold out up until the first home game of the 2011 season. The Titans had a very successful first season. They finished with a franchise best record of 13-3. They won their first playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. During this game the sports world witnessed a play that went down in history know as the “Music City Miracle”. This play won them the game as the time expired to help them move on to the next round of the

playoffs. They went on to win the AFC Championship, and advance to the super bowl. Starting our 2002 season 1-4, the Titans turned it around only losing one game the remainder of the season finishing 11-5. The Titans made it to the playoffs that season winning a wild card game against the Baltimore Ravens. They then advanced to the AFC championship game losing to the New England Patriots who went on to win the super bowl. On the bright side the Titans quarterback Steve “Air” McNair won MVP that season. Having a horrific 2004 season the Titans finished 5-11. By having some head scratching decisions being made by letting go of majority of the Titans star talent left the fans wondering where did we go wrong. Things didn’t get much better the following 2005 NFL season as the Titans finished 4-12. Most likely being the youngest team in the NFL that season had a lot to do with it. The following season finishing as an average team things began to get on track for the Titans with an 8-8 record. In 2007 the Titans finally make another playoff appearance losing their wild card game against the Chargers. The Titans tied their season best record their 2008-2009 season finishing 13-3 thanks to the help of star rookie running back Chris Johnson. The Titans won their division that season earning a bye and home field advantage for the playoffs that season. Sadly the Titans just couldn’t catch a break as star running back Chris Johnson suffers from a

bad ankle sprain in a playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. When Chris Johnson left the game the team lost all momentum losing to the Ravens 13-10. 2009 season fans had high hopes for the Titans, but the Titans had other plans finishing the season just average 8-8. Owner Bud Adams was also fined that season for sticking his middle fingers up at the Bills Bench. On the bright side of the season the Titans finished the season 8-2. Chris Johnson established himself among the elite running backs to ever play the game by rushing for more than 2,000 yards. (He is the 6th player to ever do it). He also broke Marshall Faulk’s record for most yards from scrimmage with over 2,500 yards. The Titans had a below average 2010-2011 season finishing 6-10. After this season the team would part ways with long time coach Jeff Fisher. This move ended Fishers run as being the longest consecutive head coach for one team in any sports. Fisher had been with the Titans for 17 years. The Titans also decided it would be best to part ways with former first round quarter back and rookie of the year of the 2006 season. The Titans hired hall of fame offensive lineman Mike Munchack as the head coach. The Titans also made a great choice by drafting a promising up and coming quarter back Jake Locker. The Titans went 9-7 for the 2011-2012 season. The Tennessee Titans foundation was established in 1999, since then it has given out over 1million dollars in grants to non-profit organization. It also includes 42 Tennessee based United Way offices that

serve all 95 counties in the state of Tennessee. The Titans also host a Tennessee Titans golf classic every year. Before June 2008 the tournament had generated 1.2 million for the foundation. The Titans also have generated 1.3 million off of Tennessee Titans driver plates. The proceeds from this are 100% equally distributed to 10 organizations.

1. Baptist Hospital Maternity/Birthing Center 2. Boys and Girls Club of Tennessee 3. Boy Scouts of Tennessee 4. Camp Discovery 5. Fisk University Scholarship fund 6. Girl Scouts of Tennessee 7. Jason Foundation 8. St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital 9. Tennessee State University Scholarship Fund 10. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt

Brad McClanahan is the marketing manager of the Tennessee Titans. The Titans do advertising by getting together with a lot of local big name companies in Tennessee. They have a lot of commercials and build boards with Baptist Hospital. They also bank with Pinnacle, also advertising with the option of having a custom Titans banking card. The Titans also come out with a lot of

calendars. (players and cheerleaders) They also advertise their schedule by passing them out on wallet size cards. The Titans also participate in NFL play 60. (motivate kids to play 60 min a day) They also have coat drives at games to pass out at local community centers for the less fortunate kids. The Titans also pass out old football cleats to local high school’s and even have players come and speak to kids at the local schools. I am very proud to be a fan of the Tennessee Titans. They are known to draft good talent, but they have to learn how to manage their players. I think also that the coaching staff should discipline players more and make players compete for positions. (players get to comfortable with the title of starting and don’t perform to full potential) Last but certainly not least, Bud Adams has to stop being cheap when it comes to player contracts and attacking the free agency market. The Titans have the potential to become a stronghold in the AFC, but it all falls on what moves Bud wants to make.
