GUIDES IN CONDUCTING TRAINING
I.

TRAINING ASSESSMENT

A. Prospective trainees: Barangay Health Workers, Mothers
B. Proposed training:
Training for Barangay Health Workers and Mothers on Maternal and Child Health
1. Problems of women and the children and the role of BHW
2. Care during the pregnancy
3. Post partum care
4. Expanded Program on Immunization
C. Rationale for training:
1. Barangay Health Workers has an important role in the care of the health of mothers and childrens. BHWs are
also educators, community organizers and primary health care providers on one of the essential health care
services of primary health care which is the Maternal and Child Health.
2. Mothers are the ones who care for their children at home, who regularly brings their children for immunization
and for other health concerns
3. Thus this training can bring BHWs and mothers together to work hand in hand for the promotion of Maternal
and Child Health also in guiding them both in effectively participating in the health care.

E. TASKS
1. Problems of women and the children and the role of BHW

 Identifying the health problems of women and children in the community.
 Clarifying roles the roles as BHWs
 Stating the qualities of a good BHW

Recognizing the early signs of pregnancy.



Choosing appropriate health tips to be shared to pregnant women.



Identifying high risk pregnancies for possible referral.

Recognizing problems of the newborn and postpartum mother

Discuss the importance of full immunization for the infant and mother;
List the immunization schedule for the infant and mother;
Enumerate the tasks of the BHWs in the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI); and
Identify their roles in EPI disease surveillance.

IV. TRAINING DESIGN
A. Title: Training on Maternal and Child Health

D. Participants: BHW. BNS. Mothers
E. General Objective:
This training will help Barangay Health Workers (BHW) perceive their important role in the care of the health of
mothers and children in the community. This training will enhance BHW's competency as educators, community
organizers and primary health care providers as one of the essential health care services of primary health care
which is Maternal and Child Health (MCH).
F. Specific Behavioral Objectives:
The trainees will be able to:
1. Accept their roles and responsibilities to the people and community.
2. Understand the different programs under the Maternal and Child Health (MCH)
3. Demonstrate various skills and competencies regarding MCH.
4. Believe in the capacity of people to do things for themselves.
5. Appreciate the satisfaction of serving the people in the community.
