EQUIPMENT Lubricity test for evaluation of samples by client supplied lublicity tester, a holder for the weights (440g) and 10 weights (880g each) Hardness test of roller bearings by Vicker’s hardness tester (Equipment: Mitutoyo MVK-G1 Hardness Tester)

TEST METHOD The weight holder is fixed on to the tester and a fresh roller bearing is fixed into the lubricity test. 10ml of  Shell SAE 40 lubricant is poured into i nto the trough and the motor is switched on. The lubri lubricant cant is allowed to coat the wheel before the bearing is brought into contact with the wheel. One piece of the weight is placed slowly onto the holder and observed for 5 sec. The remaining pieces of weight are slowly added in a similar  manner till one of the following scenarios occurs and the number of weights applied is recorded:

Grinding sound from the wheel is heard The motor stalls The maximum load of of 10 weights is applied onto the holder 

The test is repeated with Hocen Penetrating Lubricant poured into the trough and then with a mixture of 90% Shell SAE 40 lubricant and 10% Hocen Hoc en Engin Treatment. For each test, a new roll roller er bearing is fixed into tthe he tester. Vickers hardness test is conducted on the roller bearings used in the lubricity test to observe any difference in hardness for bearings exposed to different lubrication.

RESULTS Three conditions obtained from the 3 samples submitted, namely Shell SAE40, Hocen Penetrating Lubricant and a mixture of 90%Shell SAE40 with 10%Hocen Engine Treatment were used for lubricate lubricat e evaluation. The results are shown below Lubricity Test

From the lubricate test results, the application of the two products from Hocen resulted in better lubrication performance as shown by the increase in load bearing capacity as compared with Shell SAE 40. Further investigation on the hardness of the treated surface after mechanical processing with the aid of  Hocen products were performed and the results were showed below Vickers Hardness Test

From the hardness test results, the bearings subjected to Hocen Penetrating Lubricant and Hocen Engine Treatment registered a higher hardness value as compared to the bearing using Shell SAE 40. SUMMARY  According to the results, the application of Hocen product can improve the lubrication process as well as the surface hardness of the bearings tested. Using the setup su supplied pplied by the Lasaf Technologies (S) Pte Ltd, the lubricating performance improved by at least 6 times and surface hardness of the bearings used in the test increased by at least l east 10% from the Hocen Penetrating Lubri Lubricant cant and Hocen Engine Treatment when compared to the bearing using Shell SAE 40.
