UCLA Summer Sessions enrollment is open to everyone, including college students, high school students entering grades 10 - 12, and adult learners. The diverse Summer Sessions population includes continuing UCLA students, visiting students from other American and international universities, motivated high school students, and professionals continuing their education.

ONLINE REGISTRATION
UCLA students enroll directly through URSA (University Records System Access) beginning February 1, 2010 and non-UCLA students enroll online at www.summer.ucla.edu beginning March 1, 2010. New non-UCLA students who use the online registration form receive a UCLA student ID number that they will use to create a UCLA logon. Once you have your ID number, go to URSA (www.ursa.ucla.edu) and follow the instructions there. You will be required to submit a $150 nonrefundable deposit ($400 for international students) by credit card before a UCLA student ID is issued. International students receive their student IDs in an e-mail or through their registration center.

Once you create your UCLA logon you can also use URSA to enroll in your courses and make changes to your program. Returning students and former applicants who already have a UCLA ID number may use URSA to enroll. Be sure to update your address, phone number, and e-mail if necessary. If you have questions about UCLA logons, please visit www.bol.ucla.edu.

07

REQUISITES
Some courses have requisites. If you are a UCLA student, URSA will automatically check to see if you have met the requisites. If you are not a UCLA student, please make sure that you have experience comparable to the listed requisites. There is no need to submit transcripts. If you are uncertain about the level of difficulty of a certain course, please check the UCLA general catalog (www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog).

residence halls and residential suites within easy walking distance of classrooms, libraries, and recreational facilities. Housing is available for six-, eight-, nine-, ten-, and twelve-week periods. Most students find that living on campus is a convenient and enjoyable option during Summer Sessions. For students who prefer the independence of living off campus, there are the University Apartments which are located within easy walking distance of the campus. For details about the many different housing options, please visit the Housing Web site: www.housing.ucla.edu Apply for housing online at www.housing.ucla.

TRANSFERRING UCLA UNITS
All UCLA summer credit transfers automatically to other UCs and the grades are automatically included in your GPA. UCLA courses are generally accepted for transfer credit at other colleges and universities although visiting students are advised to get approval from their home university. Transfer of credit is at the discretion of the receiving institution.

With over 60,000 faculty, staff, and students, one of the best hospitals in the country, a police department, dozens of coffee shops and restaurants, theaters, and recreational facilities, UCLA offers everything you need to have a fun-filled summer.
LIBR ARIES
www.library.ucla.edu With a collection of over eight million volumes, UCLA Library is ranked among the top ten research libraries in the country. The two main collections are housed in the College Library, geared towards undergraduate curriculum, and the Young Research Library, which specializes in graduate research. Additionally there are thirteen special subject libraries with impressive collections in the arts, engineering, science, film and television, law, and medicine.

RECREATION
www.recreation.ucla.edu UCLA offers many recreational services to students. The Wooden Center, the campus gym, offers a wide range of sports facilities, including basketball and racquetball courts, a weight room, rock climbing wall, fitness equipment, and classes in yoga, dance, and martial arts. As for the outdoors, throughout campus you will find swimming pools, tennis courts, soccer fields, and running tracks.

BRUINC ARD
www.bruincard.ucla.edu The BruinCard, your student ID card, allows you to borrow books, work out in the campus gym, and get discounts at certain stores, among many other conveniences. Apply for your BruinCard when you get to campus at either Kerckhoff or Sproul Hall.

ACk ERMAN UNION
www.asucla.ucla.edu Located in the heart of campus, Ackerman is the center of student life. There, you can do your banking, play video games, get your hair cut, mail your letters, check your e-mail, or grab a bite to eat. There are several restaurants and coffee shops on the first floor and A-level of Ackerman. On B-level you’ll find the UCLA Store where you will find a bookstore, market, computer store, and UCLA gift shop.

HAPPENINGS
www.happenings.ucla.edu UCLA invites a wide variety of performers and lecturers to campus every year. With two museums, the Fowler and Hammer, and the Film and Television Archive (the world’s largest university-based collection of motion pictures), the summer is just as busy with musical performances, special exhibitions, and screenings.

RESTAUR ANTS
www.asucla.ucla.edu/restaurants Most of the campus restaurants are centered in a few locations: Ackerman Union, LuValle Commons, North Campus Student Center, the Bombshelter, or Café Synapse in the Gonda Center. A wide variety of cuisines is available at each location.

los angeles

22

Los Angeles is best known for Hollywood and the film industry, but the cultural possibilities go beyond celebrity sightings and film premieres. The beach and mountains are nearby and there are many vibrant neighborhoods, which make Los Angeles one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Try koreatown for a cultural experience or Silver Lake for hipster-watching. Check out LAist.com or Yelp.com for the latest local favorites and trends.
WESTWOOD VILL AGE
Located south of campus, Westwood Village is designed around student tastes and needs. There are several movie theaters, including the Mann Village Theatre which hosts frequent movie premieres. Don’t forget to use your BruinCard for a discounted movie ticket. If you prefer live theater, the Geffen Playhouse puts on plays that are as inventive as they are star-studded. With three major grocery stores, dozens of restaurants, and cafes, you won’t be want for choice in the village.

SANTA MONIC A
What used to be a sleepy beach town is now a vibrant and diverse city that lies between UCLA and the coast. And the coastline is spectacular, both vast and clean. Before you get to the beach you might want to visit Main Street with its many stores and art galleries. Also nearby is Third Street Promenade, a pedestrian district with over 200 shops, restaurants, farmers’ market, and a variety of street performers.

BEVERLY HILLS
Just a few miles from UCLA lies the glamour of Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills. Visitors are greeted with pristine tree-lined boulevards and sparkling shops. The main shopping section of Beverly Hills has every possible high-end retailer within the triangle formed by Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Rexford Drive. If shopping’s not your thing, take in a screening at the Museum of Television and Radio.

tion of Disney Hall, Frank Gehry’s spectacular metallic sculpture that houses the Los Angeles Philharmonic. And the area’s traditional tourist destinations are still fun to visit: Olvera Street, an authentic Mexican marketplace; Union Station, a beautiful building in the Spanish Mission and Moorish styles; and MOCA, a modern art museum with a full calendar of cultural events.

DISNEYL AND
International students always pick Disneyland as their favorite destination. It doesn’t seem to matter how old you are---you’ll still have great fun riding the rides and getting your picture taken with Mickey Mouse. The residential halls organize visits to Disney for students in the summertime.

VENICE
Abbot Kinney was inspired by New York’s Coney Island when he designed Venice, California as a beach resort, complete with a casino, a saltwater pool, and a pier full of restaurants and other amusements. He dug huge canals to imitate the Italian city and built a beachfront boardwalk (home to Muscle Beach and some of the most colorful characters in town). Venice is still one of the trendiest places in Los Angeles and the restaurants that line Abbot Kinney Boulevard are some of the best in the area.

FOOD TRUCkS
Taco trucks are nothing new in Los Angeles, but with the arrival of Kogi BBQ, a Korean-Mexican fusion taco truck, came the dawn of designer food trucks that transmit their locations via Twitter. Dosas, banh-mi, Chinese-Mexican fusion tamales, shaved ice, and vegan fare are just a few of the options rolling around town. Go to http:// cruftbox.com/cruft/docs/lafoodtrucks.html for food truck tweets.
