Types of experiment designs for writing UK Dissertations

Research has no limits; the types of research that scholars take up at the master’s or PhD level, or for a professional project, are myriad. Experimental research is quite popular and with time, its reach has expanded. Though traditionally, it was used primarily by students from the pure science streams, now the students from social science and business streams also use the experimental form of research to study the issues that they face in their domains. As with any approach of research, if one takes up an experimental method, he will have to do the planning, search for literature sources, and give thought to the while process. If used correctly, experimental design can be highly accurate and yield reliable results for any study. There are some forms of experimental designs, which are suitable for different forms of studies.  One-shot case study: a group is exposed to a treatment and this is followed by a measure. An example would be to allow a group of administrators to attend a one-day workshop on writing skills, and measure the effectiveness of the program on the following day through a writing session, or at work.  One-group pre-test post-test design: here the subject is pre-tested before the treatment and then tested following the treatment. This facilitates measurement of the quantum of change that the treatment brings about. In the example given above, it will be beneficial if the writing skills of the group are analyzed before the training program, as well. This will strengthen the results of experimental treatment and make for a convincing dissertation.  Static group comparison: using a pre-test can indicate if a change has occurred, but it does not necessarily indicate that the treatment is the reason for the change. In the example given here about writing skills training, the improvement in writing may have been brought about by other factors also. This element of doubt can be overcome by having two groups of administrators, and subjecting only one of them to the

experiment. In this situation, it can be assumed that both groups have had the same outside influences. Many UK Dissertations are based on this approach of experimental design.  Pre-test post-test control group design: here also, there are two groups of participants, who are assessed before the experiment. One group receives the treatment, while the second group does not. While doing UK courseworks help for a control group experiment can be taken from mentors who are familiar with this approach. You must choose the experimental design that suits your research objectives and is easy to apply.
