• Accounting: Comprehensive accounting degree prepares students for CPA or CMA certification. Accounting graduates have an 80-percent passage rate for the CPA exam. • SIFE: Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team teaches economic concepts and competes at a national level. UF’s SIFE team won the regional competition for the past three years. • Operations and Logistics: UF’s business faculty have a strong relationship with area business leaders and students get hands-on experience through several large, area distribution centers.

gradUaTe Programs

The College of Health Professions is home to some of our most in-demand programs including nuclear medicine technology, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant and nuclear medicine technology. In any of the college’s eight majors or the doctor of pharmacy program, you will gain hands-on experience through clinical training in some of the 500 hospitals, outpatient clinics and rehabilitation centers that are associated with The University of Findlay.

Master of Athletic Training (MAT) • Students can enter as undergraduates (3+2 or five years). • UF’s program is the only MAT program in the midwestern Great Lakes region and one of only 22 in the world. Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) • Five-and-one-half-year program enables graduates to sit for occupational therapy registered (OTR) examination, with a pass rate significantly above the national average. • 100-percent job placement rate. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) • Program includes three years of prerequisites plus three years of professional studies (3+3). • Graduates in the traditional program receive a bachelor’s degree after the fourth year of study and a doctor of physical therapy after the sixth year. • 100-percent job placement rate. • More than 90 percent pass the National Physical Therapy Examination on the first try, with an ultimate pass rate of 96 percent. Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) • The University of Findlay’s School of Pharmacy was the first new pharmacy program in the state of Ohio in more than 100 years. UF’s program is a direct entry or zero plus six program leading to a doctor of pharmacy degree. Graduates will be qualified to sit for pharmacy licensure in all 50 states or continue with graduate education, clinical residencies or advanced fellowships in pharmacy practice. • The Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education has awarded UF candidate status, and the pharmacy program is endorsed by the Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents.

• UF offers bachelor’s degree programs in medical technology, nuclear medicine technology, pre-medicine, strength and conditioning, health studies, health education and physical education. • A four-year degree in physician assistant is moving toward a transition to a master’s degree. The physician assistant program prepares students to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. Job opportunities are projected to continue increasing, with positions available in private practices, clinics, hospitals, HMOs, nursing homes and others. • Brewer Center for the Health Sciences provides a high-tech environment with classrooms, program laboratories, a cadaver laboratory, an on-site clinic and a topnotch lecture hall. • The Nuclear Medicine Institute offers a one-year certificate program and is associated with 10 academic affiliates and more than 100 affiliate hospitals and radiopharmacies. • The University received accreditation approval in 2008 to offer a doctor of physical therapy degree.

UF’s teacher education program is constantly evolving to meet the changing requirements of the state and national education system. Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Higher Learning Commission, our program emphasizes practical experience, the integration of technology in classrooms and the benefits of service learning.

• Teacher licensure areas include adolescent/young adult, early childhood, intervention specialist education/mild to moderate disabilities, middle childhood and multi-age education. • Teacher education majors begin working with children in classrooms during their freshman year where they begin to embed theory into practice and acquire more extensive field experiences during their sophomore and junior years in preparation for student teaching. • Students are trained using the newest technologies in the classroom and every student creates a digital portfolio that can be presented to potential employers. • Endorsements are offered in reading and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and bilingual education.

Our programs range from communications, political science and English to history, Japanese and psychology. • Forensic Science: Emphases in DNA/serology and toxicology are available. • Language and Culture: Study-abroad options bring theory to life. • Theatre: Music theatre emphasis includes both theatrical and music studies. • Law and the Liberal Arts: Prepares students to succeed in law and graduate school. From environmental management to Internet security, the College of Sciences can train you for many of the fastest growing careers in today’s marketplace. At UF, you can observe an equine surgery, study gene replication, develop new computer software, analyze exposure risks to hazardous chemicals and much more. Our rigorous academic programs, experienced faculty and focus on hands-on training will prepare you for a successful career in the sciences.

• Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Management: Prepares students with a comprehensive background in science, environmental regulations and business practices; traditional undergraduate program holds Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) • Equestrian Studies: Nationally recognized programs in English and western riding, as well as a major in equine business management, are available. Academic preparation in the fundamentals of equine science is combined with practical experience and training. UF’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association teams won the national championship in western competition and the reserve championship in English competion in 2007. The western team won the reserve championship in 2008. UF is home to four High Point Riders in the past four years. • Pre-Veterinary Medicine: Unique program offers hands-on experience all four years, acquainting students with small and large animals. UF graduates have been accepted to all 28 veterinary programs in the United States, as well as several internationally. • Computer Science: The information assurance emphasis trains students to work in computer and Internet security. The program is certified by the Committee on National Security Systems and is just one of several emphasis areas offered. • Biology: The degree prepares students for agricultural opportunities, laboratory/field work, wildlife preservation and for additional study in graduate school. • Teaching Certifications: available in mathematics and science.

Master of Science in Environmental, Safety and Health Management • Provides graduates with the skills to make managerial decisions and to provide leadership in environmental, safety and occupational health careers. • Graduate certificates are offered in emergency and disaster management, environmental management, and occupational health and safety management. The University of Findlay is a place where getting caught up in an afternoon game of Frisbee or just playing pool with friends in the residence halls can make memories that last a lifetime. With classes, friends, food and academic resources all within a short walk, your residence hall will become your home away from home. As a freshman, you will get to know other new students by living in one of the University’s eight residence halls. Spacious townhouses, apartment-style cottages and special interest houses are available for upperclassmen. All housing areas are fully furnished, and offer the use of free washer and dryers, cable television and high-speed Internet access. Housing is guaranteed for the first three years, giving incoming students one less thing to worry about.

Our Henderson Dining Hall is a tastefully decorated, 507-seat facility that encourages students to come and connect with friends over great food in a relaxing setting. You can choose from a variety of foods including salads, soups, international fare, pizza, entrees, desserts and made-to-order delicatessen sandwiches. In addition, a full-service snack bar is located in the Alumni Memorial Union. Because UF offers five different dining plans and flexible meal options, you will be able to choose the plan that best fits your needs. You also can sign up for Bonus Dollars and Munch Money that can be used at Domino’s Pizza, Marco’s Pizza, East of Chicago Pizza, Maria’s Tacos and the George House Coffee and Tea Co.

Health and Well-Being: The Cosiano Health Center offers general health assessment and care with nurses available every day, and a physician holds regular hours each week. The Office of Counseling Services is also available to provide quality personal counseling to anyone experiencing social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties. New Student Orientation: Before you get ready to move into your new residence hall, you will be able to meet with your academic adviser, sign up for classes, become familiar with campus, and take placement tests during summer Student Registration and Family Orientation days.

Since we are a small campus, you can be involved in as many things as you want at UF. You can sing in the concert-chorale, join a social fraternity, host a show on UF-TV or become a part of any of our 65 student organizations. You also can enjoy concerts, comedians and entertainers that perform on campus throughout the school year. Building a City of Awareness
Many student organizations coordinate projects and events that benefit local needs or raise awareness about important societal issues. For example, members of UF’s Habitat for Humanity chapter organize an annual Box City event during which students construct “homes” out of cardboard boxes and spend the night on UF’s front lawn to raise awareness about homelessness.

When you are ready to venture off-campus, take a walk down the city of Findlay’s Main Street to the row of restaurants and specialty shops. Or enjoy the city’s nightlife — coffeehouses, shopping at the mall and movie theatres. Findlay also is a short drive from many fun places to spend a Saturday afternoon including the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Lake Erie.

Open to the entire campus community, the Ralph and Gladys Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex is home to a six-lane NCAA-regulation track, four basketball/ volleyball/tennis courts, an ice arena and a newly-expanded cardio center. The Croy Physical Education Center houses UF’s basketball, volleyball and swimming teams and features the Houdeshell Court and a 25-meter swimming pool. The Gardner Fitness Center services academic, athletic and recreational needs with an updated weight room, training room and two classrooms. The Armstrong Sports Complex offers six outdoor professional-grade tennis courts and two football practice fields. The 20-acre site is under development, with plans for adding a baseball field, softball field and an eight-lane, all-weather track as funds are raised.

One of the first people you will get to know on campus will be your faculty adviser. Because our faculty members are so involved with the development and success of their students, your adviser will help you do much more than just sign up for the right classes. You and your adviser will work together to explore pathways to the right career for you, find opportunities to get hands-on experience in your field and ultimately learn more about who you are and who you will be.

The Art of Teaching
Located on campus, the Mazza Museum of International Art from Children’s Picture Books is the first and largest teaching gallery of its kind in the world. The museum contains more than 3,700 pieces of original artwork and hosts more than 10,000 visitors each year.

The oiler exPerience

The Oiler Experience is a program intended to introduce all freshmen to college life at UF. The course is designed and taught by a cadre of student-services professionals whose educational backgrounds and specialized training are focused on helping students to succeed, both in and out of the classroom.

Through UF’s Study Abroad Program, you can expand your outlook on the world by studying in other countries. Educational travel programs sponsored by professional organizations, short-term study tours hosted by faculty, study at sea programs and international exchange programs provide exciting learning opportunities. Travel destinations over the past several years include Brazil, Borneo, China, England, Italy, Mexico and Japan.

cUlTUral acTiviTies

The University of Findlay’s Concert and Lecture Series provides cultural enrichment experiences through hosting symphony and opera performances by professional companies. Our theatre program performs four productions a year, and the SummerStock program brings in professional guest actors and student interns from across the country to perform in productions each summer. You also can display your artistic talents in the Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery, which hosts exhibits by students, faculty and guest artists. Original art also is displayed in the Old Main Gallery and the 1124 Gallery.

At Findlay, you will be able to use your skills and talents to make a real difference in the lives of others. From helping stock pantries at local shelters to teaching computer skills to the underprivileged, the opportunities to enrich your college experience through service are endless at Findlay. The Campus Compact Center for Service and Learning can provide support to any student, faculty, staff or community member who wishes to become involved in serving the Findlay/Hancock County community. Each year more than 1,700 students, faculty and staff at UF volunteer to complete more than 8,000 hours of service to the community. Examples of service projects include: • Alternative Spring Break; • Tutoring in Spanish and American Sign Language; • Organizing charitable drives to collect food, clothing, supplies, toys and money for local non-profits; and • Teaching personal finance skills to the underprivileged.

Unsure about what you want to major in? You’re not alone. Nearly 10 percent of all freshmen at UF are undecided in their major. In addition, nearly half of all students will change their major within their first two years in college. But don’t worry – our Office of Career Services will work with you to help you find the major that fits your interests.

real-World oPPorTUniTies

When you are ready to put what you’ve learned in class into practice, UF offers you many ways to get real-world experience and build your résumé before you graduate: • Clinicals: Professional experience in a health-care setting that is part of a health professions degree or licensing program. • Co-ops: At-least two semesters of full-time work, with competitive salaries. • Field Experience: Professional work under the supervision of a faculty member or a professional in your field, typically completed for class credit. • Internships: Will vary in length and responsibilities. Can be paid or unpaid and can be taken for credit. • Performance: Theatrical and musical experience in student productions organized by the performing arts programs. • Research: Done in a campus laboratory or on-site where you assist a faculty member with research studies. • Student Teaching: Professional classroom experience for education majors.

To help you become one of our successful alumni, we offer a variety of financial aid options. • Merit scholarships – ranging from $8,000 to $13,000, based on GPA and ACT or SAT scores • Athletic scholarships for sports • Performance awards for students involved in theatre and music • Need-based financial aid – based on FAFSA results and financial need • Endowed scholarships – available your sophomore through senior years Financial aid may include grants or scholarships, student employment and student loans. Many families find our payment plan a convenient way to manage the costs of a quality education. We can help you find the many financial aid resources available. To be accepted to The University of Findlay, you must have a high school diploma in a college preparatory course of study. We recommend that you have four units of English, three units of math, three units of social sciences, two units of science and two units of a foreign language. Your application consideration is based on high school grades, class rank, ACT or SAT scores and other indicators of academic or personal success.

For students and their families interested in equestrian and pre-veterinary medicine studies or health professions, several visit days will focus on those majors.
