UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH JOURNALS This list includes journals open to submissions by undergraduate writers at any institution, as well as several undergraduate journals at the University of Pennsylvania (highlighted in yellow), some of which are open to all undergraduates at any institution and others only to Penn students. This list is by no means exhaustive, and should only serve as a starting-point for undergraduate students interested in finding venues to publish their work. For a useful listing of undergraduate research journals, see the Council on Undergraduate Research website: http://www.cur.org/ugjournal.html GENERAL UNDERGRADUATE JOURNALS (ALL DISCIPLINES) CUREJ (College Undergraduate Research Electronic Journal) The University of Pennsylvania was founded on the principle of uncompromising scholarship and its practical application. True to this tradition, the University has long been recognized as one of the nation's leading research institutions. Penn's College of Arts and Sciences is proud to be among the first to formally support and encourage its undergraduate students to participate in meaningful research with faculty mentors. The College Undergraduate Research Electronic Journal presents a sampling of that research and celebrates the academic achievements of our young scholars. http://repository.upenn.edu/curej/ Journal of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Excellence Overseen by the Office for Undergraduate Research and Artistry in the Institute for Learning and Teaching at Colorado State University, JUR combines undergraduate and faculty involvement to create a cooperative approach to the peer review process. This Library of Congress-registered publication is an exciting opportunity for undergraduates to showcase their original work. Since we accept submissions from all disciplines of undergraduate study from any accredited institution of higher education, JUR is a truly unique journal. Submissions may include original research, abstracts, editorials, reviews, or other creative works. Undergraduate associate editors, peer reviewers, and faculty reviewers will rigorously review each submission. Any research submission must include a signed letter of notification from the student's faculty advisor to ensure that research is not inappropriately or prematurely published. http://jur.colostate.edu/about.cfm Pittsburgh Undergraduate Review The purpose of the Pittsburgh Undergraduate Review is to advance innovative undergraduate scholarship. The PUR aims to bring research to the forefront of undergraduate awareness. By presenting provocative ideas, the PUR catalyzes further intellectual innovations and pursuits, thereby energizing the academic community. The launch issue of the journal contained only papers from the Reinvention Centre's two host institutions, Warwick and Oxford Brookes Universities. Volume 1, Issue 1 includes a ‘guest’ paper from an undergraduate student studying outside the Reinvention Centre's two host institutions and from Volume 1, Issue 2 the journal has been open to submissions from all undergraduate students in the UK and overseas. http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/cross_fac/iatl/ejournal/about/

SURJ (Stanford Undergraduate Research Journal) SURJ encourages any and all students to become interested in research by providing examples of what is studied in the various disciplines and by offering the means of communicating knowledge between the disciplines to achieve a holistic effect. SURJ is now welcoming submissions from students at all institutions! If you have a research paper for possible inclusion into one of the nation's premier peerreviewed academic journals, please see the submission guidelines http://www.stanford.edu/group/journal/about/index.html Student Pulse We believe that students have valuable ideas about the world around us. Unfortunately, most students only get to share their best ideas—the ones they write about every day in academic essays and research papers— with their Professors, and occasionally their peers. At Student Pulse, we change that dynamic by giving students another avenue to share their work. At the same time, Student Pulse is not just an online blog... All articles are carefully reviewed, placing a high value on the use of references and the quality of work cited. Work that does not meet our high standards is respectfully turned away, with recommendations for improvement. http://www.studentpulse.com/about-student-pulse

Papers that are the synthesis of sources in a new and unique way will be considered for publication. Thus, the article must not be a literature review or a reiteration of the ideas of another scholar. Rather it should be an original contribution to the existing body of research in its topic; it must fill a knowledge gap. In addition, the paper must be well written (organization, wording, and diction are very important) and conform to high academic standards. http://www.sjoflas.org/submissions.html NeoAmericanist NeoAmericanist is an inter-disciplinary online journal for the study of America. We are focused on reaching out to universities and the general public to create an e-journal that pushes the boundaries of scholarship and theory, and blurs the lines between academic disciplines and popular knowledge about America. Published bi-annually NeoAmericanist is a journal available for anyone who aspires to participate in the study of the United States of America. The journal is run entirely by students across the world and is built entirely on the work of a dedicated group of volunteer editors and campus reps. While the majority of content published in NeoAmericanist is student work, the journal also aims to bring together established scholars, students and the non-academic in conversation over the broad topic of America. Focused on bringing together segments of the intellectual community which often remain partitioned by traditional publications, NeoAmericanist aims to explore the multiplicity of communities and interests that think about America and their relationship to it. Funded by the Students at the University of Western Ontario and the Center for American Studies at that institution, NeoAmericanist is a fully Open Access journal and believes in the principles of equal access to knowledge regardless of institution or affiliation. Re-launched in 1994 by then medical student, Jonathan Lim, with accolades from both the Dean of Medicine at McGill University, Dr. A. Fuks and Prime Minister Jean Chretien, MJM's mandate to provide a forum for students across the world sets it apart from nearly all other medical journals in circulation. The MJM offers all students an opportunity to publish the results of their scientific research or to contribute commentaries about pressing issues of the day. The unique flavour of this journal has gained the attention of many authorities, including NEJM, JAMA and Annals RCPSC, who recognise the value of journal created by students for students. In all of its issues, the MJM has strived to strike a delicate balance between original articles, reviews and editorial letters. Its goal is to provide its readers with a global perspective of clinical medicine and accentuate the pressing social concerns as well as denoting new scientific breakthroughs. The nature of the administration of the MJM makes it particularly sympathetic to contributions from students who are just beginning their careers in the medical and scientific fields. As such, this journal hopes to encourage students to continue their research by providing them with an editorial staff eager to consider their submissions. Many students publish their first articles with the MJM and readily recognise that this journal served as a launch pad for their future contributions to scientific literature. Furthermore, the MJM is continually looking to expand its network and recruit other enthusiastic individuals into its community. The MJM staff welcomes anyone eager to participate in this experience either through submissions or technical assistance. All questions and comments are welcome. http://www.medicine.mcgill.ca/mjm/about.html

The editors firmly believe that budding scholars introduce valuable ideas that must be heard in order to understand the changing nature of our global community. http://lilt.ilstu.edu/critique/ International Affairs Journal The International Affairs Journal at UC Davis was founded in the winter of 2005, and is a student-run academic journal that strives to connect the academic world through scholarly papers in order to spread awareness, start conversations and spark curiosity about the international issues that are facing our world today. http://www.davisiaj.org/?page_id=2 Issues in Political Economy: Undergraduate Student Research in Economics Issues in Political Economy is committed to supporting and encouraging quality undergraduate research in all areas of economics. Now in its 19th volume, the Journal was founded on the belief that the best way to learn economics is to do economics. Through the process of research, writing, and peer review, students actively engage the discipline in a way not possible by simply listening to lectures and reading textbooks. In short, undergraduate research is a vital component in an economics education. The literature suggests that students take projects more seriously and learn more when the project is directed towards an external rather than an internal audience such as a class assignment. IPE is designed to provide an external audience for such research. http://www.elon.edu/e-web/students/ipe/journalinfo.xhtml The Journal of International Relations The Journal of International Relations is organized and printed at the University of Pennsylvania by the Epsilon chapter of Sigma Iota Rho.
