UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH JOURNALS This list includes journals open to submissions by undergraduate writers at any institution, as well as several undergraduate journals at the University of Pennsylvania (highlighted in yellow), some of which are open to all undergraduates at any institution and others only to Penn students. This list is by no means exhaustive, and should only serve as a starting-point for undergraduate students interested in finding venues to publish their work. This Library of Congress-registered publication is an exciting opportunity for undergraduates to showcase their original work. Since we accept submissions from all disciplines of undergraduate study from any accredited institution of higher education, JUR is a truly unique journal. Submissions may include original research, abstracts, editorials, reviews, or other creative works. Undergraduate associate editors, peer reviewers, and faculty reviewers will rigorously review each submission. To accomplish these goals, the PUR showcases the best available undergraduate research. The journal welcomes academic articles from all disciplinary areas. All articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and refereeing by two or three anonymous referees. The journal is produced, edited and managed by students and staff at the University of Warwick and was founded through the Reinvention Centre jointly by Warwick and Oxford Brookes University. It is published bi-annually and only houses papers written by undergraduate students. The launch issue of the journal contained only papers from the Reinvention Centre's two host institutions, Warwick and Oxford Brookes Universities. The authors should keep in mind an audience of university students and faculty when writing their paper. The paper must be original research conducted by a student, graduate or undergraduate, on any topic related to Latin America. Papers that are the synthesis of sources in a new and unique way will be considered for publication. Thus, the article must not be a literature review or a reiteration of the ideas of another scholar. Rather it should be an original contribution to the existing body of research in its topic; it must fill a knowledge gap. We are focused on reaching out to universities and the general public to create an e-journal that pushes the boundaries of scholarship and theory, and blurs the lines between academic disciplines and popular knowledge about America. Published bi-annually NeoAmericanist is a journal available for anyone who aspires to participate in the study of the United States of America. The journal is run entirely by students across the world and is built entirely on the work of a dedicated group of volunteer editors and campus reps. Public Writing: A Cultural Studies Journal for Undergraduate Writers Public Writing: A Cultural Studies Journal for Undergraduate Writers provides a lively and provocative online forum for undergraduate writers who are engaged in critique of contemporary, historical, public ideas. Student writers from across the humanities and social sciences and around the world are invited to submit to Public Writing. A Public Writing submission may work in any of the following fields or combine any of the following fields in an interdisciplinary manner: cultural theory, social theory, literary theory, cultural anthropology, linguistics, rhetoric studies, historical analysis, sociology, queer studies, disability studies, gender studies, philosophy or any other applicable field. Public Writing's open-access format allows writers to be exposed to a larger readership. The open-access movement in scholarly publishing provides a model whose essence is unlimited availability and use. As such, authors themselves-not publishers-retain copyright. Valley Humanities Review The Valley Humanities Review is an online journal devoted to undergraduate research in the humanities. It publishes one issue each spring and runs two annual contests with $500 prizes: a competition for high school students and one for LVC students. Manuscripts should not exceed 3,000 words, but exceptions will be made for essays of stellar quality. It is guided by these central beliefs: (1) that research can and should be a crucial component of rhetorical education and (2) that undergraduates engaged in research about writing and rhetoric should have opportunities to share their work with a broader audience of students, scholars, and teachers through national publication. Philosophy Journals Aporia Aporia is an undergraduate journal of philosophy at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Aporia is published twice yearly: an online edition in the fall, and a print edition in the spring. The staff of Aporia consists of philosophy students at Brigham Young University. http://aporia.byu.edu/site.php?id=submissions Aporia: Dartmouth’s Undergraduate Journal of Philosophy Aporia is a national philosophy journal published biannually by Dartmouth undergraduates. We release issues every fall and spring; the spring issue will feature papers that have been selected to be read at the Dartmouth Conference. A primary goal of Aporia is to showcase high quality undergraduate work in philosophy and act as a catalyst for engaging students in the puzzles inherent in the world around us. Aporia accepts submissions from students at any college or university. Its purpose is to offer students an opportunity to participate in a normally inaccessible part of academic life -- the production and publication of papers for general philosophical readership. Established in 1993, The Dualist has since become the most renowned and prestigious undergraduate philosophy journal in the U.S., featuring thoughtful articles authored by undergraduates around the world. Each year, The Dualist publishes quality undergraduate papers in philosophy. We accept submissions every January and print the journal during the late summer. The Society aspires to publish Perceptia online every year, with each volume including between three to ten articles. Articles are now being accepted for publication in the 2011 issue. The deadline for submission is February 15, 2011. Incorporated as a non-profit, student-run corporation, JYI's staff members currently represent over 30 different academic institutions. An article highlighting JYI appeared in The New York Times (17 February 1999). http://www.jyi.org/ Penn Bioethics Journal The Penn Bioethics Journal is the nation's premier peer-reviewed undergraduate bioethics journal. The journal was established in Spring, 2004 with the first issue published April 1, 2005 as part of the National Undergraduate Bioethics Conference hosted by Penn. The editorial board has included undergraduates from all four schools at the University of Pennsylvania with faculty advisors Jonathan D. Moreno, Ph.D. and Connie Ulrich, Ph.D., R.N. The editors select a theme for each bi-annual issue of the journal. The theme of the journal is not decided until after all the articles are submitted and normally features an Editorial or Paper. Submissions are not required to correspond to the selected theme. Additionally, many issues of the journal feature one or more interviews with prominent professionals in fields related to the issue theme. Biology Journals BIOS BIOS, the quarterly journal of Beta Beta Beta Biological Society, has been published continuously since 1930. It has a three-fold purpose: to publish matters that pertain to the affairs of the Society, to publish articles by members, and to publish articles that will be of general interest to biologists. Many distinguished biologists have contributed manuscripts for publication in BIOS, written especially with the undergraduate reader in mind. Subjects covered include articles on current research, developments in biology, biology as a profession, as well as graduate and professional training for biologists. Special emphasis is placed on the publication of undergraduate research papers.

BIOS is published four times a year: March, May, September, and December. Manuscripts of two types are considered for publication. Student authored undergraduate research articles in biology are reviewed by college and university faculty or researchers. Chemistry Journals Journal of Undergraduate Chemistry Research As the amount of chemistry research continues to grow, there has been an increasing emphasis on student investigations at the undergraduate level. Now there is a journal that specifically allows publication of this research. The Journal of Undergraduate Chemistry Research is a new peer review journal that will be published quarterly with papers of original research performed by undergraduates. Authorship may be by the student or their professor. Join us by submitting a paper for publication and/or subscribing to the journal for its first year of publication. The Journal of Undergraduate Chemistry Research publishes papers of original research performed by undergraduates on all aspects of chemistry including analytical, organic, inorganic, physical, polymers and biochemistry. Mathematics Journals Furman University Electronic Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics The Journal accepts papers of significant mathematical interest written by students containing work done prior to the students' obtaining a Bachelor's degree. Papers of all types will be considered, including technical, historical, and expository papers. Typically, papers will have been written as part of a summer research experience or school project. Any paper submitted by an undergraduate must have the approval of a sponsor, a full-time faculty member willing to endorse the student's work. The sponsor is largely responsible for ensuring the quality and veracity of the student's work. The sponsor's name and school will appear with the paper along with the student's name. The editorial board of the Journal reserves the right to reject any paper it deems inappropriate. http://math.furman.edu/~mwoodard/fuejum/content/submission2.html Undergraduate Math Journal The Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal is devoted entirely to papers written by undergraduates on topics related to mathematics. Although the authors need not be undergraduates at the time of submission or publication, the work must have been completed before graduation. The journal will be distributed freely in an electronic format (PDF) from the journal's web site. In order to maintain a high level of exposition, each paper must be sponsored by a mathematician familiar with the student's work and each paper will be refereed. The editor-in-chief will make the final decision for publication. Medical Sciences Journals Global Pulse: AMSA’s International Health Journal Global Pulse Journal was launched in 2005, envisioned as a professional-quality publication for medical students, run entirely by medical students. We are an open-access, ISSN-registered, peer-reviewed publication. Our goal is to discuss challenging, cutting-edge subjects in global health, defined to include the following areas: Global health inequality, International public health policy, Domestic health disparities, Human rights and justice in health, and Cultural barriers in medical practice. Re-launched in 1994 by then medical student, Jonathan Lim, with accolades from both the Dean of Medicine at McGill University, Dr. A. Fuks and Prime Minister Jean Chretien, MJM's mandate to provide a forum for students across the world sets it apart from nearly all other medical journals in circulation. The MJM offers all students an opportunity to publish the results of their scientific research or to contribute commentaries about pressing issues of the day. The unique flavour of this journal has gained the attention of many authorities, including NEJM, JAMA and Annals RCPSC, who recognise the value of journal created by students for students. In all of its issues, the MJM has strived to strike a delicate balance between original articles, reviews and editorial letters. Its goal is to provide its readers with a global perspective of clinical medicine and accentuate the pressing social concerns as well as denoting new scientific breakthroughs. The nature of the administration of the MJM makes it particularly sympathetic to contributions from students who are just beginning their careers in the medical and scientific fields. As such, this journal hopes to encourage students to continue their research by providing them with an editorial staff eager to consider their submissions. Many students publish their first articles with the MJM and readily recognise that this journal served as a launch pad for their future contributions to scientific literature. Physics Journals Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics The Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics (JURP) is a peer-reviewed, online journal of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society. JURP is devoted to archiving research conducted by undergraduate students in physics and its related fields, and is a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and information by undergraduate students. The twofold purpose of the journal is to foster and reward the scholarly efforts of undergraduate human sciences students as well as to provide a valuable learning experience. The articles represent primarily the work of the undergraduate student(s). Faculty members, who deserve recognition, are identified by an asterisk next to their names. Undergraduate research not only bridges the gap between knowledge and experience but has the benefit of laying the groundwork for career exploration and development. The opportunity for undergraduates to publish in a national journal is an added value to the overall education experience and to the process of self-discovery.
