or higher across a select spectrum of Grade 12-level courses. Students
must apply by March 1 to be eligible to receive entrance scholarships.

studying in Canada for up to three years at an English-language
high school (transcripts are required to show the three years of study)
or if they take two 40S-level English courses (such as EAL 40S)
and achieve an average grade of 75% across both. Students can
also demonstrate English language proficiency by writing a test

and accept their offer of admission. Students must
accept their admission offer by June 1. The offer

CHOWN SCHOLARSHIP SELECTIONS

Students receive admission offers at
different times depending on when they
have applied, if the program they have
applied to is competitive and other factors.
The Admissions office may also require
final grades before they can make certain
admission decisions. Students can check on
the status of their application by logging into
their online application portal. A checklist will
outline if the application is complete, if the
application fee has been paid and if required
transcripts have been received.

Lists of recommended first year courses for
all programs and registration tutorials are
available online in the University 1 First Year
Planning Guide.

Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario high
schools can nominate students to receive
the Chown Centennial Entrance Scholarship,
valued at $1,000. Selection packages will
be distributed to counsellors in June.

OUR COMMUNITY
INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY

COLLEGES

The U of M is home to a thriving community of over 2,000
First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, and offers a wide
network of services for Indigenous students. Migizii Agamik –
Bald Eagle Lodge serves as students’ home away from home
and houses the Indigenous Student Centre where students
can meet with advisors and mentors to receive academic,
financial, cultural, career and personal advice. Public speaking
and mentorship programs, such as the Indigenous Circle of
Empowerment, give students the confidence and know-how
to become leaders in their community, while Access and
Aboriginal Focus Programs provide academic, financial and
tutoring support to students overcoming social, economic,
geographic and academic barriers.

Colleges provide facilities and programs to create
a community within a community for U of M students.
For a nominal fee (usually under $20), students can join
one of our four colleges – St. John’s College, St. Paul’s
College, St. Andrew’s College, or University College –
and take advantage of exclusive scholarship support,
access to unique facilities and smaller class sizes. Services,
facilities and available financial supports vary by college.
