Veterans Helping Veterans   Fact Sheet  Canada’s Afghanistan Wounded Veter ans ans are suffering nee dle ssly

as a result of the inadequacies of the  New  Veter an’s an’s Char ter.  Fact  The disability award given to seriously wounded soldiers suffering from the loss of limbs is woefully inadequate at up to $285,000.00.  $285,000.00. 

Fact  With the exception of the disability award, all financial benefits under the NVC  are subject to taxation, end at age 65, and remain inadequate.   Fact  The public The public has been lead to  believe that all the wounded Veterans have received the maximum disability award. Fact  Veteran s Affairs have layed off 233 employees and closed 9 regional VAC offices, and the ill-trained ’

 personnel  pers onnel at Service Canada offices are expected to support those Veterans who suffer from emotional,  physiological  physio logical and/or  psychologic  psychological al trauma resulting from Peacekeeping or War experiences,  while not nearly enough support is provided to the family caregivers of these Veterans. 

Fact  experienced by  by Canada s Peacekeeping and War  War   Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious problem experienced Veterans. Between 1972 and 2007, after their release, almost 27% of male Veterans (696 of 2,620) committed suicide, while (29 of 204) women committed suicide. Since November 2013, 9 serving soldiers or Veterans suffering from PTSD, have committed suicide. Among Veterans, the the percent  percentage age of deaths by by suicide is 45% higher than the general general population.  population. Not enough is being done to help these Veterans.  ’
