Hamilton will provide play-by-play on the radio.

Last Time Out
Mike Black scored on a driving layup with 3.7 seconds left and
Albany stunned Washington, rallying from a seven-point second
half deficit for a 63-62 win on Tuesday night. Abdul Gaddy gave
Washington the lead when he rebounded Aziz N’Diaye’s missed
free throw and scored in the lane with 16.5 seconds left. Albany
got the ball to Black at the top of the key and he quickly darted past
C.J. Wilcox and was able to score on a scooping right-handed layup
to give the Great Danes (2-1) the lead. Gaddy got off a desperation
30-footer that hit of the side of the rim and handed the Huskies
(1-1) the loss. Black finished with 22 points, while Jacob Iati hit six
3-pointers and added 20 for Albany. Gaddy led the Huskies with 16
points and N’Diaye added 13 but was held to just one point in the
second half. The game was played at Albany’s pace and the Huskies could never get the tempo they wanted. It
didn’t help that Washington missed 11 free throws and was just 3 of 12 from 3-point range. Wilcox didn’t make
his first 3-pointer until there was 1:39 left and finished with 11 points. Scott Suggs left the game 90 seconds
after it started; taking an elbow and a knee to the head and suffering a concussion.
Washington vs. Ohio State/Big Ten
Washington holds an 8-3 all-time advantage over Ohio State, but the two teams have not met in the nearly 40
years. The last time the two teams played was Dec. 1, 1972, when the Huskies notched a 67-63 win in Seattle
in the season-opener. The last win for the Buckeyes over Washington came on Dec. 27, 1961 when No. 1 Ohio
State beat the Huskies 59-49 in the Los Angeles Classic. The Huskies have had a lot of success over the Big Ten
Conference through history. They are 40-30 all-time against the conference, playing twice during the 2012 NIT
against Big Ten schools. The Huskies beat Northwestern, 76-55 in the second round of the NIT before dropping
a 68-67 overtime decision to Minnesota in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden.
Washington vs. Rhode Island/Atlantic 10
The Huskies have never faced Rhode Island, but are 11-11 all-time against teams in the Atlantic 10 Confer-
ence. The Huskies last played an A-10 team last season, when they dropped a 77-64 decision at Saint Louis.
You have to go all the way back to Nov. 28, 1999 to find the last time the Huskies beat someone currently in
the Atlantic 10, when the Huskies beat Saint Louis 69-60 at the Big Island Invitational. Saint Louis was not a
member of the A-10 at the time of that win. The last true A-10 team that Washington beat was Xavier in the
1998 NCAA tournament.
Did You Know...
Washington has an all-time record of
1,666-1,080 (.607) to rank 15th amongst
the all-time winningest schools in the
NCAA. Kentucky leads everyone with
2,091 victories. Among Pac-12 schools,
only No. 8 UCLA (1,730) and No. 12
Utah (1,671) have more victories than
the Huskies. Oregon State is the next
closest to the UW with 1,642 wins to
rank 20th.

Coach Lorenzo Romar (11th Yr. at Washington, 17th Yr. Overall)
Now in his 11th season, Lorenzo Romar is coming off a year in which he won the 2012
Pac-12 Coach of the Year after guiding UW to a 14-4 conference record and Pac-12
regular season championship. It was the third time that Romar, the 18th head men’s bas-
ketball coach at Washington, has earned Coach of the Year (also 2009 & 2005). Romar
is the dean of coaching in the Pac-12 having spent more seasons at UW than any other
current coach at their school. Romar owns a 220-114 (.659) record at Washington and
is 313-202 (.608) in 17 seasons overall. Romar reached several milestones during the
year including his 200th win as UW’s coach, 300th overall coaching victory & 100th Pac-
12 conference win. The first African-American head basketball coach at UW, Romar is
third all-time in victories at UW and reached 200 wins second fastest. Washington
has won its first two outright conference titles (2012 & 2009) since 1953 under the direction of Romar. He has
led UW to six NCAA tournament Appearances -- all in spurts of three-consecutive seasons (2004-05-06 &
2009-10-11) -- and the school’s first back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances (2005 & 06). Overall, he has led Wash-
ington to three Sweet 16 appearances. In 2012 he led UW to the semifinals of the NIT, a first in UW history. He
was the 2005 Pac-10 and Black Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Romar played point guard for Marv
Harshman’s 1979 and 1980 teams and spent five years in the NBA after college. Prior to UW, Romar served as
the head coach at Saint Louis (1999-02) and Pepperdine (1996-99) and was an assistant coach at UCLA (1992-
96) - He helped lead the Bruins to the 1995 national title. A native of Compton, Calif., he graduated from Pius
X High School. Romar and his wife, Leona, have three daughters: Terra, Tavia and Taylor.
Unprecedented Success Under Romar
The Huskies are enjoying their greatest stretch of success in team history under the direction of Lorenzo Romar.
Besides three Sweet 16 appearances, three Pac-10 tournament championships, two regular-season conference
titles & a trip to the NIT semifinals, the numbers show Romar has entered unchartered territory. Since 2004-
2005 -- Romar’s third season at UW -- the Huskies have won 190 games, the most ever in a eight-year span of
UW basketball history. He has avg 21.9 wins per season during his 10-year UW career and has amassed four
of the seven largest single-season win totals in UW history. Romar earned his sixth 20-win season in 2012, in-
cluding a school record four-consecutive seasons, and only trails Hec Edmundson’s 11 seasons with 20+ wins.

Who Are These Guys?
THREE-HEADED MONSTER: The Huskies’ back-
court is one of the strengths of the squad. The Hus-
kies have talent, size and experience at the position
thanks in large part to the trio of senior captains
Abdul Gaddy and Scott Suggs and junior C.J.
Wilcox. Combined, the group were the top three
scorers during the team’s summer foreign tour and
have played 233 games at the collegiate level.
Gaddy is the Pac-12’s leading active player with 312
assists, Wilcox was honorable mention All-Pac-12
and ranks fifth in UW history in 3-point makes, and
Suggs, a 41% career 3-point shooter, returns from a
broken foot that cost him all of last season.
CENTER OF DEFENSE: Returning to man the mid-
dle for the Huskies is 7-foot senior Aziz N’Diaye.
The Dakar, Senegal native was a member of the
Pac-12 All-Defensive Team as a junior and enters
the year 8th all-time on the UW list for career
blocks. The career 54% shooter scored 7.8 points
per game and is the team’s top returning rebounder
after grabbing 7.3 per game. N’Diaye, the third
player to stand 7-feet or taller in the Romar era, is
especially rejuvenated this season after spending
part of the summer in his native Senegal with his
teammates and family.
THE REDSHIRTS: Jernard Jarreau and Andrew
Andrews finally make their debuts after sitting out
2011-12 as redshirts. Both will be counted on to
contribute right away after spending a year learn-
ing Romar’s system, putting on weight (Jarreau has
gained 25 pounds since stepping on campus) and
developing their games. Andrews will be counted
on for big minutes off the bench to spell the guards,
while Jarreau is one the primary candidates for the
fifthe starting spot.
FINDING A FIFTH STARTER: Lorenzo Romar has
said it’s a safe bet that four of the starting spots
have been grabbed by Gaddy, Wilcox, Suggs and
N’Diaye. Desmond Simmons, Jarreau and
Martin Breunig are all contending to hear their
names called at introductions, but it remains to be
seen which frontcount player will win the starting
nod. Simmons is the most experienced from the
group with 11 starts already under his belt, but he’ll
have to fend off the 6-foot-10 Jarreau and Breunig.
Shawn Kemp was an early contender for a starting
spot but will miss 6-8 weeks with a patella tendon
tear in his knee.
THE WALK ONS: The Huskies gained a pair of
newcomers that chose to walk on during the sum-
mer. Quinn Sterling joined the Huskies early in
the summer and traveled with the team to Europe
and Africa. The 6-foot-4 guard showed his shooting
prowess on the trip but has been slowed this fall
with a stress fracture in his foot. Dion Overstreet
joined the team after contacting the coaching staff
expressing his interest to join the team. The 5-9
guard averaged double-digit points at Edmonds CC.

Following UW Hoops
UW Leads Division I With Most All-Time Wins At Their Home Arena
Washington has 922 wins inside of Hec Edmundson Pavilion, the most by any Division I team at its cur-
rent home arena. The Huskies have over 100 more victories than No. 2 on the list, Pennsylvania.
Friendly Confines Of Home
Losing at Alaska Airlines Arena in Hec Edmundson Pavilion is rare under coach Lorenzo Romar’s watch. In
11 years with Romar at the helm, UW is 148-29 (.836) overall at home, 77-7 (.917) in non-conference
games. UW was 18-2 at home in 2012, the 5th time under Romar that they have reached at least 17 wins
at home. The Huskies have won 15+ at home 18 times overall, but only two other times in the last 60 years
outside the Romar era.The Huskies won a school record 32 straight non-conference games at Alaska Airlines
Arena, dating back to a 72-71 home loss on March 14, 2008 in the College Basketball Invitational to Val-
paraiso, before South Dakota State beat them on Dec. 18, 2011.
THE TRANSFERS: Washington will have a pair of for-
wards sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules. Perris
Blackwell from San Francisco and 6-11 Gilles Dier-
ickx from Florida International both joined the Hus-
kies but are ineligible to play this season. The 6-foot-9
Blackwell was honorable mention All-West Coast
Conference after averaging 12.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg while
shooting 57.5% from the field. He will have one sea-
son of eligibility remaining. Dierickx started 15 games
for Isiah Thomas’ squad as a freshman last year and
has the ability to help inside with his size and knock
down shots from outside. The Belgium native will have
three years left to play starting in 2013.
COACHING ADDITIONS: Washington will have
two new faces on the bench this season. Joining Lo-
renzo Romar’s coaching staff are Brad Jackson and
Lamont Smith. Both are respected basketball minds
and have known Romar for years. Jackson joins the
Huskies after leading Western Washington to the
2012 NCAA Division II championship. He spent 27
years as head coach for the Vikings before making the
move to Seattle after Raphael Chillious left the Hus-
kies’ bench to become an assistant at Villanova. Smith
joined the staff soon after Jackson, reuniting with his
former boss, Romar. Smith spent the last five years as
an assitant at Arizona State, but got his coaching start
under Romar at Saint Louis from 1999-2000. Longtime
assistant Paul Fortier moves to the new role of Direc-
tor of Player Personel and Recruiting.
Noteworthy
Stuck In Neutral?
Washington is 5-9 in regular season neutral site
games (1-9 in the last 10) during Lorenzo Romar’s
11-year tenure at the school. But, when it counts dur-
ing the post-season, the Huskies are much better on
neutral site courts. The Huskies are 13-6 under Romar
at the Pac-12 Tournament and have won three tour-
nament championships. UW is 8-6 on neutral sites in
the NCAA tournament and have made three Sweet 16
appearances. The Huskies went 0-1 at MSG during the
NIT. Overall, UW was 0-4 on neutral courts last season
and have lost their last five neutral site games. Their
last win on a neutral site came on March 18, 2011
when they beat Georgia in the second round of the
NCAA tournament.
Husky Quick Hitters
• Washington returns 47.3 percent of its scoring and
57.3 percent of its rebounding from last year’s team
that went 24-11 overall, won the Pac-12 regular sea-
son title and advanced to NIT semifinals.
• Two starters (Abdul Gaddy and Aziz N’Diaye) re-
turn to the squad and a total of four players return
who averaged at least 17 minutes of playing time per
game. Plus, the Huskies get Scott Suggs back, who
averaged 18.3 minutes per game in 2010-11.
• The Huskies went on a foreign tour this summer that
saw them visit Spain, France, Monaco and Senegal.
The team went 3-3 in games played. Suggs and Gad-
dy led the team with 13.5 ppg, while C.J. Wilcox was
two points behind and averaged 13.2 ppg.
• Returner Aziz N’Diaye was a first-team member on
the 2012 Pac-12 All-Defensive team, while C.J. Wil-
cox was honorable mention All-Pac-12. Lorenzo Ro-
mar was conference Coach of the Year for a third time.
• The Huskies enter the year with more wins in their
current arena (921) than any other school. Their total is
over 100 more than second-place Penn.
• Washington has won 20 games four-consecutive
seasons; a first in school history. In those four seasons,
UW has claimed two regular season conference titles
and two Pac-10 tournament championships.
• Washington has amassed 100 wins over the last
four seasons, the first time in program history they
have reached the century mark in a four-year span.
2012-13 Husky Basketball
High Post Offense
Washington installed a half-court high-post offense this
year and has been working on the new system since the
summer. Luckily for the Huskies, they had 10 extra prac-
tices to prepare for their summer foreign tour. Lorenzo
Romar learned the high-post offense while an assistant
under Jim Harrick at UCLA and has implemented the
style at his previous coaching stops of Pepperdine and
Saint Louis. The Huskies will still run the floor at every
opportunity as evidenced by their 85 points scored in
the season opener vs. Loyola.
World Travelers
The Huskies embarked on a two-week trip this sum-
mer to Europe and Africa that saw them visit Barce-
lona, Spain; Nice France; Monaco; Paris, France; and
Dakar, Senegal. During their foreign tour, the Huskies
played six games and went 3-3 against professional
teams. Scott Suggs and Abdul Gaddy led the team with
13.5 ppg, while C.J. Wilcox was third with 13.2 ppg.
But more importantly, the team had many experiences
that will stay with them for their entire lives. While on
the trip, the team saw such sites as the Eiffel Tower,
The Louvre, the Prince’s Palace in Monaco, Fraggonard
Perfume Factory; Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and the
1992 Olympic sites in Barcelona, Spain. They wrapped
up their trip with three days in Dakar, Senegal (see next
note).
Dawgs Visit Africa
The Huskies capped their foreign tour this summer by
spending three day in Dakar, Senegal. While in Africa,
the team had a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Dakar, the
capital of Senegal, is home to senior Aziz N’Diaye. He
returned home for the first time in two years and served
as host, ambassador and translator during the trip. The
team started their Africa leg with a visit to the Bandia
Animal Reserve, followed by a stop at the SEEDS Acad-
emy, where N’Diaye got his basketball start. N’Diaye
led the Huskies as they ran a clinic for the younger
members of the academy. The next day the team joined
N’Diaye on a visit to his home where they saw the home
in which N’Diaye grew up. His mom cooked N’Diaye’s
favorite meal -- fish and rice -- for the whole team. Later
that evening the Huskies were scheduled to play Dakar
University, but a severe rainstorm flooded the court and
made the venue unplayable. On the final day, the team
visited Goree Island, a slave-trading post that served as
the last stop for millions of African slaves before they
were shipped off to Europe and the Americas.
UW Picked Fifth In Pac-12 Pre-
Season Poll
The Huskies were picked to finish fifth in the Pac-12 by
a poll of media that cover the conference. Washington
garnered 272 points, including two first-place votes.
The last time the Huskies were picked to finish fifth
was in 2008-09 when they ended up winning the Pac-10
regular season title. Last year the Huskies were picked
to finish fourth, but ended up winning the title. Arizona
was predicted as the winner of the league by a very
close margin. The Wildcats edged UCLA by one point
despite receiving one less first place votes than the Bru-
ins. California was picked to finish third and Stanford
a
2012-13 Washington Men’s Basketball – Husky Notes
was chosen to finish fourth. Defending Pac-12 tourna-
ment champion Colorado was selected to finish right
behind Washington in sixth.
Romar Reaching Milestones
Last season, Lorenzo Romar coached his 500th game in
his career that has spanned 17 seasons. He is 313-202
(.608) all-time. He earned victory No. 300 overall AND
No. 100 in Pac-12 action on Jan. 21, 2012 vs. Stanford.
On Dec. 16, 2011 he reached 200 wins as the Huskies’
head man. He is the second fastest Husky coach to
reach the milestone. Romar has one other milestone
that he reached this season vs. OSU in the Pac-12 Tour-
nament: 200 losses in his overall career.

Marching Up The Charts
Besides Romar, several Husky players are also threat-
ening the UW record books. Abdul Gaddy enters his
senior season 8th all-time in assists and is the Pac-12
active career leader in the category. He is coming off
the third most assists (182) in UW single-season his-
tory. Junior guard C.J. Wilcox is eyeing several records
himself. He enters the year with the fifth most 3-point
makes in school history and will break into the top-three
all-time if he maintains his current pace. Additionally,
he is a career 83.1% free throw shooter to rank 4th all-
time. Aziz N’Diaye is 8th all-time on the UW’s blocks
list entering this season and needs 25 more to become
the fourth Husky with 100 in their career. N’Diaye also
ranks 7th all-time on the UW’s field goal percentage list.
Scott Suggs enters the year sixth on the all-time 3-pt
FG% list and needs 27 3-point makes to join Wilcox in
the top-10 list.
Filling Up Alaska Airlines Arena
Despite Alaska Airlines Arena (10,000) being the second
smallest Pac-12 Conference home in regards to capac-
ity, Washington was second in the conference in atten-
dance. The Huskies averaged 9,294 fans per game in the
regular season (8,785 including NIT) and trailed only Ari-
zona, which averaged 13,906 fans at the McKale Center
(14,545) each game. Cal was third, drawing 8,532 fans
at Haas Pavilion (11,877).
Huskies Are NBA Ready
Washington has developed a reputation for sending
players to the NBA during Lorenzo Romar’s first 10 sea-
sons as head coach. Last year, UW was the only Pac-12
school with multiple players selected and for the first
time ever saw two players selected in the first round
(Terence Ross, 8th to Toronto and Tony Wroten 25th to
Memphis). A total of six Huskies have been selected in
the first round picks under Romar’s tenure to equal UCLA
for the most among Pac-12 schools. Currently 8 Huskies
are on NBA rosters: Will Conroy (T-Wolves), Spencer
Hawes (76ers), Quincy Pondexter (Memphis), Nate
Robinson (Chicago), Terrence Ross (Toronto), Bran-
don Roy (T-Wolves), Isaiah Thomas (Kings) and Tony
Wroten (Memphis).

Romar Leads UW To Another His-
toric Season
Once again, Husky Coach Lorenzo Romar led the Hus-
kies to unchartered territory in 2011-12. The list is long
of accomplishments that helps solidify Washington as
one of the elite college basketball programs in the na-
tion. Here is a quick overview of some of the program’s
accomplishments during the year:
• For the first time in school history, the Huskies have
won 20 or more games in four-straight seasons.
• Washington has amassed 100 wins over the last four
seasons, the first time in program history they have
reached the century mark in a four-year span.
• The Huskies won the Pac-12 regular season title with
a 14-4 record, their 23rd conference title since 1911 --
18 of those crowns are outright -- but only two of those
have come in the last 58 years (2009 & 2012).
• Fourteen conference wins equals the 4th most in
team history and just the 9th time the Huskies have
acheived that many league victories.
• UW advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 NIT Tour-
nament, the furthest they have advanced in the post-
season tournament and furthest they have advanced in
either the NIT or NCAA’s since 1953.
• Tony Wroten was named Pac-12 Freshman of the
Year, the fifth time in UW history they have won the
award.
• Wroten and Terrence Ross both earned first team All-
Pac-12 honors, making UW the only team with multiple
players on the first team in four-straight years.
Post-Season Hardware
Lorenzo Romar won conference coach of the year for the third time, the sixth time a UW coach has won
the award. Tony Wroten is the fifth Husky to win Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and added all-conference
honors along with Terrence Ross. C.J. Wilcox got an honorable mention nod. Aziz N’Diaye is the third
Husky to get All-Defensive team honors.

20/20/20/20 Visions
The Huskies have 20-plus wins in four-straight season for the first time in team history. Washington had
won 20-plus in three consecutive seasons two times previously: 1951-53 and 1943-45. The Huskies have
won 20+ games for the sixth time under Lorenzo Romar and for the 27th time overall in team history. The
only other Husky coach with more 20-win seasons is Hec Edmundson, who accomplished the feat 11 times
from 1928-1945. Washington has now won 100 games during a four-season span from 2009-12 (26 in 2009,
26 in 2010, 24 in 2011, 24 in 2012), besting the previous top four-year stretch in team history: 96 wins from
1950-53 under Art McClarey (19) & Tippy Dye (77).

UW vs. Top-10 Teams
The Huskies faced No. 7 Duke on Dec. 10, the only time during the year they faced a top-10 ranked team.
In 2011, UW played three teams that were ranked in the top-10 at the time -- all losses. The Huskies are
33-121 all-time against teams ranked in the top-10 -- including 2-19 on a neutral court -- and 9-18 in
Romar’s 10 years. The Huskies last win over a top-10 team was in 2010’s second round of the NCAA Tourna-
ment when they soundly beat No. 8 New Mexico.
Vs. Ranked Foes
The Huskies were 0-2 against teams ranked in the AP top-25 during the season, losing to Duke and Mar-
quette. Their last win came over No. 16 Arizonza in the championship of the 2011 Pac-10 tournament.
Overall, the UW is 28-59 against AP ranked opponents since Jan. 1, 2000. UW has won its last four against
ranked foes in the confines of Alaska Airlines Arena and are 16-5 over the last 21 contests against ranked
foes at home. Overall, Washington is 19-14 all-time at home during the decade. UW had lost its previous
8 decisions against ranked non-conference opponents before ending a three-year drought by beating Texas
