It has been generally observed that a less attention is being given towards the increasing soil pollution and proper utilisation of the solid wastes in the locality by the Pollution Control Board, Municipalities, Health Department and other allied agencies. The mismanagement in the disposal of the solid wastes is causing serious threat to the soil and the animal life. Several bovines and other animals are dying and ailing due to consumption of such wastes like polythene bags. It is posing a major threat to the health of the people living in that area. Thousands of polythene bags disposed off by the people alongwith the other domestic wastes has caused multi-ferous impact on the health of the people besides causing sanitation problem. These wastes thrown unevenly in the streets, roads, open fields and waste land in the area has affected the health of the people. The state government and even the Municipal authorities tried their best to ban the polythene bags, as a step to create healthy environment in the city but due to non-cooperation from the public, the campaign could not succeed.

Burnig garbage is a common, traditional practice in the area.

Burning plastic, rubber or other man-made materials creates dioxin and other dangerous toxics in the air, soil & groundwater. This has affected the people, pets, birds – with tumours, cancer, learning disorders, infertility, immune system problems, asthma, and other diseases. Children, teenagers & pregnant women are at the highest risk. The resulting ash is

also toxic and can easily get into the ground and your well water.
Dioxin and other chemicals are totally invisible, and their health effects are not immediate. It is easy to be unaware of the problems. But once you are aware, it doesn’t make sense to continue. It may be hard to accept that the simple act of burning garbage endangers you and the people living around you. But the longer you continue, the more poisons accumulate in your body.
