What You See….. Is What You Get
“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” - Ephesians 4:1 What’s your calling? Who are you called to be? These are questions many of us ask ourselves or have been asked by someone. Many times, though, this question is posed in the context of a future destination. “Live”, in Ephesians 4:1, is portrayed in a context unfamiliar to our English language, Aorist tense. Aorist tense is an action word without regard to past, present, or future. What Paul is saying here is, Who you are called to be….is who you are now! Are you “called” to be a preacher, teacher, author, poet, songwriter?? Then start acting like it! God addressed this issue in the Prophet Jeremiah’s life as well. “Before I formed you in the womb I chose you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” - Jeremiah 1:5 Jeremiah struggled with insecurity over his calling because all he saw was a young child (Jer. 1:6). Jeremiah saw himself as a young child unable to be received as a legitimate prophet. You know the saying, “What you see, is what you get”? How many of you know…what we see, is not what God sees! If we always live according to what we see or other people see, we will never become what God has called us to be. God saw a mighty prophet because that was what he was created for, it was his calling. You have a calling on your life that is not just a future destination; It’s who you are! Walk as who you were formed by God to be now; It’s the only way you will actually become it.
