Mama Mia! Conceptualisations and ingenuity in Italian cuisine come to Nai Harn! Relish an authentic style of a diverse array of favourites and new combinations served in a stylish yet cozy ambiance, or savour pizzas in a separate casual seating area by a wood-red oven. An evening meal must kick off with an aperitif! And so we did, while soaking up the surroundings of the Da Vinci restaurant and bar. Open air, but with enough cover for when the rains come (and with an air-conditioned dining room too), Da Vinci is tasteful, beautifully designed and welcoming. The children’s children’s play area area offers offers parents the opportunity opportunity to relax relax with a ne meal, while keeping their kids in sight. Tantalizing temptations come from the kitchen with fresh ingredients as signature items in every dish. Our rst adventure was the antipasti of Bruschetta Bruschetta,, grilled sliced bread with chopped tomato, garlic and olives. Refreshing and the perfect choice to get us started, it was followed by the primi piatti course of a trio of pastas: Lasagne Al Forno (homemade Forno (homemade lasagne in layers with beef and tomato sauce), Spaghetti Gamberi Zucchine Vodka Vodka (spaghetti with prawns, zucchini and vodka) and Spaghetti Neri Pomodorini Calamari e Gamberi (black (black spaghetti with tomato, squid and prawn). Unique tastes and texture combinations, underlining the quality of the ingredients. Good wine is, of course, essential to a ne meal. The Palazzo Della Torre Veronese Indicazione Geograca Tipica 2004, Allegrini was was the perfect red to complement the rst two courses and continued to match the secondi piatti and pizze courses, Scaloppine Al Vino Bianco Con Patate (tender, perfectly cooked llets of pork in white wine, served with potatoes). Pizza is a must-have in a traditional Italian restaurant, and Al Proscuitto Crudo Crudo (tomato, Mozzarella cheese and Parma ham) is one not to be missed! Semifreddo All Arancio and Arancio and Semifreddo All Amaretto ( home home made orange and amaretto sherberts) were the indulging cap to the meal. For superlative Italian cuisine with the freshest of ingredients, be sure to take the Da Vinci voyage of discovery.

Not forgetting the between-courses palate cleanser: fruit sherbet and Bailey’s ice cream. Perfect! Top quality ingredients, on which Chef Justin has based some outstanding dishes, together with air in preparation and presentation combine to create a memorable occasion. A divine plateful of roti (Thai style pancakes) can be found at the modest but ambitiously named International Restaurant at the corner of Sakdidet Road and Soi Saman-Utid. Hearty but not too oily, the roti can be enjoyed as a sweet snack with a bit of sugar and condensed milk or spicy with beef or chicken curry. If it’s cheap and cheerful you’re after in Cape C ape Panwa, this is the place to go.
Everyone loves a lookout point and the Khao Khad viewpoint tower delivers wide views across green hills and sparkling sea, plus a great drive for those who love to navigate curves and inclines. The views are unquestionably spectacular, but we nd it to be a bit lifeless and disconnected from life in Cape Panwa. Better sights are often found at the heart of a local community, such as Baan Borrae. Borrae’s main focal point is the estuary where local shermen moor their small vessels and can be seen preparing for another trip out to sea. If you’re feeling weary of the tourist scene and looking for the ‘real Phuket’, this is a good place to start.
As intrepid island explorers, we’re always on the lookout for good spots to enjoy a refreshment or three. On Ao Yon, the tiny jewel of a bay wedged between Chalong and Makham bays, there are a couple of places that offer brews with a view. Neighbouring open-air restaurants Secret Cove and the Ship Inn both have a ‘hut on a beach’ chilled-out ambiance that’s becoming more and more elusive on Phuket.

It’s tting that the Phuket Raceweek regatta has found a new home in Cape Panwa, since this area of Phuket has long been a favourite among sailors. Sailing is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages, but in Ao Yon the love of sailing is fostered in the hearts of the young. We recently watched a children’s sailing course by Topper Sail in action and were impressed with the abilities that kids as young as eight displayed in steering their small Optimist yachts around the calm waters. Topper Sail’s Katy Gooch explained that gaining sailing skills can give kids valuable lessons in teamwork and decision making that can extend into all aspects of life. Topper Sail also runs the Phuket Youth Sailing Club, where

S chrijver About Chef Marc De Schrijver Chef Marc, comes from Aalst in Belgium, a city and municipality on the Dender River, 19 miles northwest from Brussels. He studied at the hotel school in Brugges and started his training as a kitchen help at 15yrs old in the 2 Michelin stars restaurant “De Bellemolen” Bellemolen”. Following this he worked in different Michelin star kitchens all over Belgium, until nally working with Master Chef Eddie Van Maele, one of the 'Top of the Top Chefs'. Working with such a great chef changed his professional life and vision! Chef Marc is a big fan of the “Classic French Cuisine” and a great sauce maker, creating gastronomic cuisine with a personal touch that is simply “Food with great taste”. Of course everything is home-made.

Method Cook a main Lobster of 750 gm for 10 minutes in “Court-Bouillon” (water avoured with vegetables and aromatic herbs). Keep lobster cool in fridge. Cut cubes of tomato, cucumber peel, mango and apple. Vanilla Sauce: reduce to 50% while slowly cooking 100 ml of cream and 100 ml white wine together with one Madagascar vanilla stick.
Serving Take large cocktail glasstablespoon and ll to a of level of 2 ngers with vanilla saucea followed by one vegetable mix. Slice the lobster and place on top the meat of a half lobster. Use the head and claws for decoration.
Chef Marc and his partner and host, Corry, ran a very successful high class restaurant in Antwerp, Belgium called De Tafeljoncker for 18 years. In 2007 they built their own Sino Portugese pool villa in Phuket and shipped three containers of beautiful Belgian furniture, ornaments and equipment to Phuket. They set up The Royale Nam Tok Restaurant in their home near Kathu waterfall. They now welcome guests to their delightful and stylish restaurant just for dinner. There’s something for everyone here, with a mix of Japanese, Chinese, Western, Thai and Indian dishes. The tables are heaving with fresh and tasty morsels including rock lobster and New Zealand mussels on ice, roast beef prime rib and duck at the carving station, about a dozen cheeses and more than 20 dessert choices. Phuket ‘Sunday Roasts’revealed Phuket foodies are also treated to a host of roasts on Sunday.
