Blog A blog of the visit will be updated daily and can be found at www.y6infrance.posterous.com. A link will be added from the school’s homepage at www.churchlaneschool.co.uk. Please feel free to add comments (using the children’s Posterous accounts) but we encourage parents to write something very general to all of the children rather than writing to their child. This way we can try to avoid creating feelings of homesickness.

Activities Rue The village of Rue is walking distance from the chateau. It includes ancient fortifications, 13th 14th and 15th century buildings and monuments including La Chapelle du Saint Esprit, La Chapelle de L’Hospice and Le Beffroi. The children will tour the village followed by a quiz with all the questions and clues provided in French! Goat Farm A visit to La Ferme des Fromages de Chevre (approximately 40 minutes from the chateau) where the children will be given a tour of the farm conducted in French. At the end of the session they will have the chance to sample some of the farm’s delights. Chocolatier The children will travel to a chocolate factory only a few minutes from the farm. A presentation about chocolate will be given in English before the pupils have the chance to buy one or two items from the factory’s shop. Amiens The children will visit Amiens which is the capital of the Somme region and 45 minutes from our chateau. Here they will explore Amiens flamboyant Gothic Cathedral and eat their packed lunch in the gardens of Le Palais de Justice. Underground City The pupils will travel from Amiens to Les Grottes de Naours. Here they will enjoy a fascinating tour of an underground city hollowed out between the 3rd and 9th centuries and only rediscovered in the 18th century. The children will use audio guides to learn about the intriguing history of the caves. They will also have chance to explore the playground. Abbeville At Abbeville the children will have the opportunity to speak more French by visiting the local market and shops. All the pupils will be expected to purchase specific items using Euros and without resorting to English. They will also use their language skills to purchase a drink in a local cafe. Nausicaa Approximately 40 minutes from the chateau, the children will visit Nausicaa on their way home. Nausicaa is regarded as the premier sealife centre in Europe and the children will spend their final morning exploring the marine life and watching presentations. A packed lunch will be provided for the children to enjoy in the nearby park. There is no charge for any of the visits as price of admittance was included in the cost of the visit. However, children may like to take spending money to purchase gifts etc.

Clothes and Suitcases Luggage Children should bring a labelled suitcase rather than a rucksack as these can be difficult to store in the coach. Luggage is restricted to one suitcase plus one piece of hand luggage. We recommend that children help parents to pack their luggage. Sleeping bag Children should bring a sleeping bag which should be labelled. It should be in the suitcase or separate to it. We would prefer it not to be attached to the suitcase as it can be difficult to pack when tied to handles. Please ensure that your child is able to fold their sleeping bag and put it back into the drawstring case. Pillow case Clothing Please ensure that all clothes are named. We recommend that the children bring: • Day to day clothes for the visits and activities. Whilst we have been very lucky with weather in the last few years, we suggest that the children always have something warm to wear. Sporty, messy clothes for the team games. Old, scruffy clothes for the blind trail A waterproof jacket/coat Woolly/fleece hat Gloves Disco clothing Pyjamas/nightdress Handkerchiefs A bin bag to store used clothes in the suitcase
